Macatawa Bay Boat Works Restoration
1940 Chris Craft 17' Barrel Back
Note: this boat is being restored for our customer and is NOT for sale.

What a beautiful and timeless design Chris Craft came up with when the first conceived the 1938 to 1942 Barrel Backs models!

This well preserved 17' model has just arrived for a new MBBW "no soak" 3M-5200 bottom.

Never produced in large numbers when new, they are highly sought after today and a worthy boat for restoration.  Values on the true Barrel Backs climb each year and we have not yet seen prices level out with quality restorations on certain models claiming over $100,000.

New knees, frame ties and frames are cut to size and glued and screwed in place.

Above we see the batons being laminated to the perfect size and shape with the adjacent frames used as molding forms.

The British Standard #1088 Lloyds Registry marine plywood is being dry fit

All new batons were made and are pre curved through lamination and cut to size.

New bottom complete and rolled back over, the boat received some fresh varnish.
